Red light speed cameras have been functioning in South Australia for several years. They detect vehicles crossing intersections against red lights, often at excessive speed.

The initiative heightens awareness of this road safety issue, emphasises the associated dangers and is educating drivers, through penalty, of the crucial importance of observing and obeying traffic signals and speed limits to make a safer road environment for all road users.

If you drive through a red light and recorded by a red light camera, you’ll be notified with an expiation notice and will acquire demerit points.

If you’re caught by a red light camera while speeding through a red light, you’ll earn demerit points and expiation fees for EACH offence.
