In last year’s State Budget the Government announced, as part of its $2 billion public transport blueprint, an expansion of the light rail network ‘Coast to Coast’ from Glenelg to the City and on to West Lakes, Port Adelaide and Semaphore.
Following on from the first highly successful tramline extension from Victoria Square to City West, the next stage of the extension will take the tramline another 2.8 kilometres along North Terrace onto Port Road to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
The new service to the Entertainment Centre will provide convenient access to the new Royal Adelaide Hospital, the upgraded Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Hindmarsh Stadium and major events at Bonython Park. The project also includes a Park and Ride facility at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, providing an attractive alternative to driving and parking in the City.
The tramline extension to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre is expected to be up and running early in 2010.
