Rebates for solar and electric heat pump hot water heaters

Rebates are available from both the SA Government and the Australian Government for the installation of new solar (electric or gas) or electric heat pump water heaters.

Different eligibility criteria apply for these rebates. A low income household may be eligible to receive both the State Government and the Australian Government rebate for their installation.

Rebates for ceiling insulation

Rebates for ceiling insulation are available under the Australian Government's Energy Efficient Homes Package. These are available to owner-occupiers, landlords and tenants.

Rebates for installation of photovoltaic systems (solar electricity)

Rebates for installation of photovoltaic systems on homes and community use buildings are available from the Australian Government under the Solar Homes and Communities Plan (SHCP).

Schools are not eligible for funding under this plan but can apply for grants under the National Solar Schools Program (below).

This subsidy will be replaced by a solar credits scheme from July 2009.

National Solar Schools Program

The National Solar Schools Program (NSSP) provides Australian schools with access to grants for solar power systems, rainwater tanks and a range of energy efficiency measures.

Renewable Remote Power Generation Program

The Australian Government's Renewable Remote Power Generation Program (RRPGP) provides rebates of up to 50 per cent of the initial cost of renewable energy installation in remote areas of South Australia.

Remote Areas Energy Supplies

The Remote Area Energy Supplies scheme is a Government funded subsidy program with two major objectives:

1. The provision of a safe, reliable and quality electricity supply to approved remote 'off grid' communities in South Australia who meet the eligibility criteria.
2. Provide a subsidy so that the cost of electricity for domestic customers who consume under 8,000 kWh per year pay a tariff that is no more than 110 per cent of the equivalent default grid tariff.
