The Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure offers exciting paid work placements for tertiary students over their summer break through its Undergraduate Vacation Employment Program.

This year's program will occur over an eight week period from Monday 7 December 2009 to Friday 29 January 2010.

The program is available to all tertiary students who are undertaking an undergraduate degree.

Students who are currently studying in one of the following disciplines are encouraged to consider a placement with the Department:

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Program run for and when does it start?
This year's program runs for 8 (eight) weeks and will commence on Monday 7 December 2009 and conclude on Friday 29 January 2010. Successful applicants are expected to be available to work for this period but alternate dates may be negotiated, where possible.

Who is eligible to apply for the Program?
The Program is open to all undergraduate students completing an undergraduate degree. Preference will be given to students completing the second, third or fourth year of their course.

If you are not an Australian Citizen or permanent resident of Australia, appropriate visa conditions will apply. Please bring evidence of this documentation to the interview.

How much do Program participants get paid?
Vacation Employment students rates of pay are calculated on the employee's age, wages before tax will range between $407.94 and $657.97 per week (rates as at 1 October 2008 at the Administrative Services Officer Level 1), which is based on the SA Government Wages Parity (Salaried) Enterprise Agreement 2006.

How will I find out whether my application is received?
You will receive an acknowledgement within ten business days of the Department receiving your application.

When will I know if I am successful in securing a vacation placement?
You will be notified by the department if you are successful by 20 November 2009.
