South Australian Government Energy Consumers' Council

About the ECC

The establishment of the Energy Consumers’ Council was a key election commitment of the Government. The Council is called upon to provide high level policy advice to the Government on energy policy issues, including pricing and the reliability of supplies and services in the South Australian energy sector.

The Energy Consumers’ Council held its inaugural meeting on 27 November 2002. Pursuant to the Council's Charter, the Council will report to the Government on a regular basis, allowing representatives of energy users direct access to the Government and the ability to have a real and practical input into energy policy development.

The goals of the Council are to provide advice to the Minister for Energy on behalf of all categories of consumers in South Australia that will assist in putting downward pressure on prices and in ensuring security and reliability of supply.

The Council’s membership has been drawn from diverse backgrounds.
